Words from the Developer

The article 'Introducing the 3-A Grief Intervention Model: Acknowledge, Assess, Assist '  was published in  the Omega Journal of Death and Dying. Although originally developed for dementia caregivers, the content can apply for caregivers of other progressive and chronic conditions.

Due to my personal experience as a family caregiver, professional experience helping family caregivers and strong grief background, coming from over 20 years of academic and independent study, I see the impact of loss and grief in the circumstances that individuals experience. This view is different from the conventional cultural views related to loss and grief. To share my view, I devised the ground-breaking 3-A Grief Approach that has been further developed into the 3-A Coping Framework for more people to be able to use in a variety of challenging situations.

What is the 3-A tool?

It's a common sense framework to cope.

"Works for Me!" ~ Catarina, Coping with Strength Workshop Participant

Acknowledge, Assess, Assist® through Situational Losses™

An opportunity for you to strengthen inner resiliency and well-being by assisting you in accommodating and adapting to the reaction from situational loss that comes with adversity. Wherever there is adversity, there is situational loss.

The 3-A Coping Framework involves using the words:

Acknowledge, Assess, Assist®

Acknowledging the realities involving situational loss due to adversity,

Assessing the reaction and impact

Assisting by acknowledging and assessing and using strategies in order to cope with strengthened inner resiliency.

What is Situational Loss™?

Situational loss is the loss of a person, thing, or quality, resulting from alteration of a life situation, including changes related to illness, body image, environment, and death.  (Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 8th edition. 2009),
