True Friends Can Make You Feel Better





Feeling good may seem an impossibility during tough times. Making a concentrated effort, though, to monitor your well being and access coping tools can make you at least feel better. You can monitor by using the 3-A Coping Framework components of Acknowledge, Assess, Assist. Acknowledge reality involving the situational losses of the circumstances; Assess on an ongoing basis the impact emotionally, behaviorally, physically and spiritually; Assist with methods and coping tools. Taking walks, getting out in nature, resting, meditating/prayer and maintaining a good diet are some common assist examples that do not cost anything.

Another tool to access that you may not consider as a tool is that true friend.


Friendship: True friends can provide comfort to assist in getting you through tough times. There is none more genuinely known as your pet dog being referred to over the years as "man's best friend". Qualities include being loyal and a companion.


In their article, the staff from the Mayo Clinic acknowledge the importance of friends.


"Friendships can have a major impact on your health and well-being, but it's not always easy to develop or maintain friendships. Understand the importance of social connection in your life and what you can do to develop and nurture lasting friendships."


They continue to list the benefits:


"Good friends are good for your health. Friends can help you celebrate good times and provide support during bad times. Friends prevent isolation and loneliness and give you a chance to offer needed companionship, too. Friends can also:

  • Increase your sense of belonging and purpose

  • Boost your happiness and reduce your stress

  • Improve your self-confidence and self-worth

  • Help you cope with traumas, such as divorce, serious illness, job loss or the death of a loved one

  • Encourage you to change or avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as excessive drinking or lack of exercise"


Friends and connection are valuable AcknowledgeAssessAssist additions to your coping toolbox for you to monitor with awareness. They can assist to make you feel better.
